Production week 1
This was our first week of actual production! It was pretty tough planning out all of our tasks, and making time estimates. We managed to make a planning though, and we're doing our best to stick with it. Hopefully with as little unplanned surprises as possible.
Unfortunately, due to the flu season and the viruses spreading around, one of our programmers fell ill and didnt manage to get as much work done as planned. Nothing much we could do about that though, so the best thing is to just continue and see how much we can get done by the deadline.
A little list of programming updates on the game:
- the camera script is finished
- character movement implemented
- characters can aim with their left arm
- pick up mechanics work
- shooting mechanics, partially finished.
On the art side, we decided to get the biggest elements of the game finished first. Which are: the ground planes, characters, vegetation and enemies. This week we managed to finish modelling the rocky cliff environment, and fully model and unwrap the main characters. The cliffs were modelled to look stylized, yet organic, so every rock and wall was modelled by hand. We decided not to go for a procedeural approach, as we want to have full control over every inch of the level. The environment does not have textures yet, which will be made soon!
The characters are designed and modelled with very round and bubbly shapes. We want to make sure that they have a friendly feel to them, and round shapes work best. There are 4 different characters to play, they all have the same base body, but have unique hairstyles and skincolors. They are unwrapped and ready to be textured, rigged and animated!
