Polishing phase week 1
This week, we entered the polishing week. We had our main features in the game and now needed to start refining what we had. There were still a couple of things art-wise that needed to be added:
We made a simple ui design. We decided to keep it minimalistic so that i wouldn't clash with the detailed and colorful game. It needs to be clearly visible and to the point.
We luckily need only minimal ui, since our game is supposed to be short and intuitive. We wanted the player icons to be fun and cartoony, just like the characters in-game. The amount of player icons to appear in-game, depends on the amount of players that you play the game with.
Another thing we still added, were the collectible ship parts. The parts are essential, since they need to be collected and returned to the spaceship in order to finish the game. The designs and color schemes of these parts are very similar so they are easy to to recognise!
Some other things were already in-progress, but needed to be refined more. The effects were quite important for our game, as they indicate the pick-up items and give some nice feedback to the players when they attack or get attacked. We wanted every weapon to feel different from each other, so they all needed their own effect and muzzleflash.
Our programmers have bene working hard to improve the gameplay and fix bugs. They also finished implementing the enemy animations and the player UI. The health bar is now updated throughout the game and the amount of character icons in the screen depend on the amount of players.
Lastly, we already started collecting sound effects for our game. Sounds make anything much more satisfying and will give a nice atmomsphere to the game.
